Lation. NaCl can type complexes together with the hydroxyl moieties in 9, 10 carbohydrates . In Ficoll and HEC-based formulations the NaCl to hydroxyl moiety molar ratio was 1:11 and 1:1, respectively, explaining why no crystallization was detected within the Ficoll-based formulation. The phase separation in between NaCl and also the cellulose polymers was also observed within the DSC-investigations. A eutectic melting was recorded during heating from the frozen HEC and HPMC-formulations indicating that the phase separation takes place inside the frozen state. The morphology and microstructure from the formulation is revealed by SEM imaging (Figure 2) and corroborates the DSC and X-ray data. Bacterial cells are observed protruding from the sheets with deposited NaCl crystals clearly visible around the surface of the HEC-sheets. Determined by the similarity among the survival rates for bacteria formulated within the HEC-solution and Ficoll options as in comparison to HPMC we conclude that the state with the salt, regardless of whether dispersed as crystals or dissolved within the polymer, will not correlate with cell survival. Alternatively cell survival shows a partnership using the surface tension of your formulations, see Figure 1B. For reduce surface tensions, lower survival prices are recorded for the bacteria.
